STRICKEN: Two Years Later! (Plus an Announcement!)

Happy 2nd Birthday, STRICKEN!!

STRICKEN came out exactly two years ago today... It's so hard to believe! Two years old. Wow. There are days that it still hasn't sunk in that I'm a published author!

I'd like to thank everyone at eXtasy Books for giving me a chance and for being so amazing all around. Love to all!!

STRICKEN: Love deserves a second chance.

The Romance Studios St. Patrick's Day Party

Holy cow, what an amazing weekend! The party at The Romance Studio was a blast! I had so much fun, even if I was having difficulty coming up with posts about only one book without giving away too much of the story. I managed to get through it!

I am not doing another party like that one until I have at least one more book out - which I hope to correct before the end of this year, if I can get "Something About Alexis" cleaned up to spec!

((Speaking of other books - works in progress - I have an announcement regarding my first series... More on that later!!))

I shared multiple excerpts, a few of my favorite quotes from the story, the character interview with Ewan that Maggie asked me to do for her blog (see it HERE!), and character bios for Ewan and Marti.

I am exhausted, but it was worth it! People loved the excerpts, and I loved reading the bits from other people's works. eXtasy Books was well represented this year - the five of us who participated got a lot of interactions with fans, and we all had a lot of fun.

Contest for my giveaways ends at midnight Pacific Time - 3 a.m. Eastern. I'm giving away 2 copies of Stricken (via eXtasy Books' website), and a GC for eXtasy Books/Devine Destinies.

Upcoming Blog Tours

I have three tours visiting my blog next week - two on the 25th, and one on the 28th. All of the stories showcased look amazing! I'm slowly booking more and more tours, and more guest spots for my fellow eXtasy Books/Devine Destinies authors, so if any author out there wants to do a guest spot, contact me now to get your name in ASAP. My contact information is in the links area to the left of my blog entries.

I've also signed up to be a spot for Maggie Blackbird's upcoming blog tour for her second novel, "Redeemed", Book 2 of the Matawapit Family series. Her tour doesn't start until April 29, so it will be a while before you see it on my blog. Watch for it!

THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT...

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I want everyone to know about the current manuscript draft, the one I've been working on for a while. I've dubbed it "Book 2" of "My First Series"... I've mentioned it a few times on here and in Facebook - which is tied to my Twitter.

It's far from finished, and it's on the back burner until "Something About Alexis" is sent off, but I have been writing a plot bunny given to me by my best friend/Peapod, Heather a couple of years ago. She said something off the cuff, and BAM! A new plot bunny hopped through the brain.

So...........................................................................

I am currently in the middle of writing a companion/sequel to Stricken.

You read that right.

The MSIP is tied to Stricken.

The mains in it are *not* Ewan and Marti for the record. Nor is it a rewrite of anything I wrote in the past. This is a new couple, with a few *huge* conflicts, and a load of new plot twists that not even I saw coming. I want a fresh, new story with new characters, new conflicts and new ideas done *my* way and to my publisher's ultra high standards.

(((Well, you do meet the leading man of this one for a few minutes in Stricken... I'm not ready to say *who* it is yet, so please do not ask me anything about the story unless you're in the select few people who do know...)))

I know, Stricken was supposed to be a standalone, or it was when I signed the contract with eXtasy Books two years ago. The thing is, it ended in a way that it could be a standalone story, or be the launching point for another one about another family member.

Once Heather said the offhand remark, it was "GAME OVER" and I was writing down ideas for the story. The rest is history.

I am only partway through Chapter Four, but the idea is solid, the character development is coming along nicely, and I already know how I'm going to end it.

I just have to sit down, and keep plugging away at it until Draft One is finished. It does have a name, as does the series, but I'm not ready to reveal either of those yet. Only those most trusted to me have that knowledge. Tee hee!

To answer the next question, YES, I am plotting a Book 3. However, I do not know if it will come to pass or Stricken and Book 2 will be a duology or not. I'll have to see how things go with Book 2, and of course "Something About Alexis", along with the rest of the works I'm plotting.

So yeah. That's the big secret. It feels odd announcing something like this so soon, when its first draft isn't even finished yet, but I'm doing my best to open up and be more like my fellow eXtasy Books authors. They are all amazing, talented people, and a lot of them are so open about what they're working on.

Telling all of you out there that I'm working on a sequel/companion for Stricken is a huge step for me. Normally I like to keep stuff like this to myself, due to criticism I've had in the past, which made me clam up and toss the work - which was exactly what the person doing it was hoping for.

No more. If people do not like my work, that's fine with me. Some people do not like it out of spite, and that only shows what kind of a person they are. I'm going to keep going and write until my fingers turn blue, and keep going.

Anyway...................................................................

It's been a long, exciting day for me.... I hope everyone had a great weekend. Thanks again to all who popped over to the TRS St. Patrick's Day party, and interacted with all of us authors.

I leave you with the song that inspired me to name my first novel.... STRICKEN by Disturbed! Enjoy!

HAPPY SECOND BIRTHDAY STRICKEN!!!

St. Patrick's Day Party at the Romance Studio - Happening NOW! (And other fun stuff!)

I never thought that doing an online party with authors from all over would be so much fun!

The St. Patrick's Day Party is going strong over at The Romance Studio. There are so many talented authors participating this year. I'm reading excerpts from not just my fellow eXtasy Books authors, but others as well. Some of these amazing people have at least 10 books out... I'm one of the few showcasing only their debut novel.

It feels weird being included in this wonderful group. I keep thinking I'm not worthy of doing this, yet people are starting to respond and say hello to me. Normally I'm the one promoting others, so yes, this is a bit odd for me to do.

I am loving it every time someone drops by and comments on one of my posts, or seeing someone post on someone else's share. Everyone is so nice!

I want to thank the Romance Studio for hosting such wonderful events like this. It's one amazing experience, and I'm so glad I signed up to be one of the featured authors this year. I'm gaining a lot of experience just in the first two days of it, and I've met some amazing people.

eXtasy Books authors who are participating this year are: D.S. Dehel, Curtis A. Cooper, Taryn Jameson (who co-writes with Gabriella Bradley), and my longtime friend, Maggie Blackbird. eXtasy Books is also participating, and they've been featuring some of the newer releases from their most popular authors - from Viola Grace to Diana Waters, and down the line.

I've included a few excerpts from Stricken - two or three new ones that are not featured on the eXtasy Books website or my own - and the most recent post was a character interview I did for Maggie Blackbird's blog a while back.

I already know what I'll be sharing tomorrow and Sunday... I'm giving away a gift card for eXtasy Books/Devine Destinies, and 2 copies of Stricken, so if you want to put your name in for either, get over there and say hello!

I worked on designing some banners during the great Facebook Outage of 2019, and had some fun in Twitter.

This sort of happened while I was carrying on with a few friends in Twitter on Wednesday night....

Yes, that is the REAL William Shatner - Captain Kirk himself - retweeting my reply to one of his tweets. I wonder how long he's waited to razz someone from Nova Scotia about Oak Island.

The only way it would have been more epic is if it had been Mark Hamill. LOL

A long running joke has now become my signature... I was getting teased about being such a purple freak, and how much I love purple roses, especially by my pals at eXtasy Books. So, I've decided that my signature is purple roses. It really suits me, or I think it does.

Here's a couple of the banners I made for the St. Patrick's Day Party, my pages, and my Facebook Group (Romancing the Maritimes):

My author tagline.

New banner for my Facebook Group.

Some of my favorite sights along the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

Excerpt from Chapter 8 of STRICKEN.

Banner for my Facebook Page and Profile.

Introductory banner for the TRS party.

I am also looking into making some book trailer videos and getting subscriptions to some stock photo sites so I can do some amazing book trailers, and make some gorgeous and unique banners for my work... And maybe help others with theirs too.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for my newsletter! That is so sweet of all of you. I hope to have Volume One out later this year, when I have big news to share.

Don't forget to keep checking the Romance Studios' Party Website to see what kind of amazing excerpts are showcased by some uber talented authors!

Have a lovely weekend everyone... I leave you with "Sometimes She Cries" by Warrant. Enjoy!

OTHER NEWS!

SOMETHING ABOUT ALEXIS:

I'm still plugging away at the revisions for "Something About Alexis". I worked on it most of the day on Friday, and I'll be attacking it this week, in between preparations for the St. Patrick's Day Party - which starts on Thursday.

Since "Something About Alexis" happens in a town near me, I'm planning on walking around the riverside streets and parks in one particular section of the town. I want photos to show everyone where certain events happen in the novella, and maybe create a slideshow with music - if I can find a way to do it all on a PC or an Android phone... I'll figure it out. I think you can do it via VLC or another media program. I THINK... LOL

HOSTING BLOG TOURS!

I've also signed up to host more tours via Silver Dagger Tours, including a couple of authors I have never met. Hopefully all of you will be kind enough to check out their work, and leave reviews for them on their sites or in Goodreads. It won't be just romance authors, I hope to host authors from all genres in time.

Have a great week everyone, and do not forget to check out the party this weekend at THE ROMANCE STUDIO!

I leave you with one of my favorite Guns N' Roses ballads... Patience.

When It's All Said and Done by Denise Wheatley

Good morning readers! Today, my friend and fellow author Denise Wheatley is back, with her new story, "When It's All Said and Done". She tells us a bit about the story itself and gives us a juicy excerpt!

Thanks for appearing again, Denise... Over to you! ♥

* * * *

Hello VJ! I am so happy to be stopping by your blog once again to discuss my latest release with you and your readers. My contemporary romance novel “When It’s All Said & Done” is now available, courtesy of Red Sage Publishing, and I’ve got a sneak peek as well as an exclusive excerpt to share!

When It’s All Said & Done:

Book Blurb:

Single until further notice! (Heart currently under construction…)

Savvy, fun-loving aspiring writer Leslie James is the assistant to the Editor-In-Chief of Limelight magazine. She dreams of one day joining their phenomenal writing staff, and in the meantime keeps her journalistic skills sharp by launching Blissful Beauties, a sensational beauty blog that celebrates all women.

While writing is Leslie’s passion, it also helps take her mind off her last breakup and current relationship status: Single. Just when she begins feeling resistant to love, she meets Michael—a handsome, sexy single father and sports journalist with seemingly good intentions. At the urging of her supportive, sassy best friend Crystal, Leslie befriends Michael but insists that they remain strictly platonic. He’s determined, however, to win her over. As their undeniable chemistry becomes impossible to resist, the pair’s friendship eventually turns into romance.

Things only get better when Leslie’s boss tasks her with writing a feature story for Limelight. She delivers the article with flying colors in hopes of finally landing a seat at the writer’s table.

But when Michael’s ex-wife suddenly resurfaces and Leslie’s promotion stalls, both her relationship and career are left hanging in the balance. Will the love that she has for both ever be enough to sustain them?

Book Excerpt:

Once Michael finished cooking breakfast, he and Leslie headed into the living room to watch college basketball. The twosome chatted about a little bit of everything as they ate. And then, just when they sat their plates down on the coffee table, Michael turned to Leslie.

“I love you,” he said softly.

She stared blankly at him, thinking she must’ve misheard him.

“You…what?”

“I love you.”

Leslie’s chest began to tingle, and her eyes teared up a bit. The sweet, sincere look on Michael’s face was beyond words. She was positive that she’d never felt this way about anyone before in her life.

“I love you, too.”

Michael wrapped his arms around her. He leaned in, and she closed her eyes, waiting to feel the soft, warm touch of his lips. And then, just when the tip of his nose gently brushed against hers, she heard the sound of keys rattling outside of the door.

Michael stopped abruptly. “Did you hear that?”

“I did. It sounds like somebody’s coming in.”

Michael jumped up and walked over to the door. Before he could turn the knob, it flew open, and Tyler came running inside.

“Daddy! Daddy!” he yelled.

“Hey, what’s up little man!” Michael said, picking him up.

Leslie stood up, smiling and waving at Tyler. Then she walked around the couch and waited nervously for Michael’s mother to walk in.  She hadn’t expected to meet his mom this soon, especially under these circumstances.

“Hello Michael,” a sexy-sounding female voice said. It sounded nothing like his mother.

Leslie watched as a beautiful woman carrying a designer suitcase appeared in the doorway. It was, in fact, not Michael’s mother. It was his ex-wife, Mia.

Leslie’s entire body went numb. She eyed Mia, noticing how tall and curvaceously thin she was. Her jet black wavy hair cascaded down her back. Her deep bronze complexion was flawless. Her hazel eyes were dazzling. And she acted as though Leslie was invisible considering she had yet to acknowledge her.

The atmosphere suddenly became tense and awkward. Leslie didn’t know what to do, so she looked over at Michael. He seemed to be just as shocked to see Mia as she was. When Mia reached out and tried to embrace him, he took a step back.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

“Your mother called and told me the wonderful news about your sports casting job! Instead of calling to congratulate you, I decided to come home and give you my well-wishes in person!”

Home?” Michael asked cynically.

“Yes,” Mia replied confidently. “Home.”

Leslie’s eyes widened. She could not believe what she was seeing or hearing. She struggled to keep her cool. Waited to be noticed. To be spoken to. Introduced. Something. But since that didn’t seem like it was going to happen, she cleared her throat, forcing Mia to acknowledge her presence.

“Oh. Hello. I didn’t see you standing there.”

Yeah right.

“Hello, I’m—” Leslie began. But before she could continue, Mia interrupted her and turned back to Michael.

“I didn’t realize you had company. Your mother told me you were here alone.”

Michael looked at her in disbelief. “How did you get the keys?”

“Your mother gave them to me,” Mia smiled. “I stopped by there first to see her and pick up Tyler, and told her not to mention that I was coming home so I could surprise you.”

“I’m sorry,” Leslie interrupted, feeling as though a bomb might go off inside of her. “As Michael said, I’m Leslie.”

“Hello. I’m Mia. Tyler’s mother.”

The smirk on Mia’s face said it all. She obviously felt as though she had the upper hand here.

Leslie looked down and saw a wedding ring set sitting boldly on Mia’s finger. She hoped that it was from a new husband and wasn’t the set that Michael had given her.

“Come on mommy! Come see my room!” Tyler insisted, clutching Mia’s leg.

“Okay, here I come!” Mia then turned to Michael. “Your daddy has some things to take care of out here anyway.”

Before following Tyler to his room, Mia turned to Leslie with a beauty pageant smile on her face and waved.

“Nice meeting you…Lindsay was it? Take care,” she said dismissively before walking off in her fancy designer stilettos.

Leslie didn’t bother to respond. She was too irritated to even open her mouth. Instead she turned to Michael, struggling to maintain her composure as she stared at him silently and waited for him to handle the situation.

“Sweetheart,” he began, holding his hands up, “I swear I didn’t know she was coming here.”

“Oh, I get that. I’m just wondering why you haven’t asked her to leave.”

“Well, Tyler’s here…so…”

Sooo...you’re not going to ask her to leave?”

“Well…I just don’t want to make a scene in front of our son.”

Leslie’s heart plummeted to the pit of her stomach. “Michael, you do know what’s going on here, don’t you? How ironic that the minute you don’t get an NBA contract, she leaves. Then the minute you get a sports casting job on a major network, she reappears.”

“I know…But Mia is Tyler’s mother, and he’s so happy to see her. I don’t feel comfortable asking her to leave right now. It would break his heart.”

Leslie felt a lump forming in her throat. She looked into Michael’s eyes, wondering what all this meant for the two of them. She was afraid that if he let Mia stay, then somehow that could drastically change things between the two of them.

“So you’re going to let her stay?” Leslie asked quietly.

“I don’t have a choice. Please understand that, Leslie, Please…”

Loud laughter between Mia and Tyler came booming from his bedroom. Leslie felt completely defeated. She got it now. Mia was back. So it was time for her to leave.

“Why’d I do this?” she asked herself out loud. “Why? I knew better…”

“Leslie, please don’t say that,” Michael insisted.

An Update with Upcoming Events!

Happy Saturday everyone!

It's been a while since I updated all of you on what's going on in my end of the writing world... Things have been a bit insane here, between real life, helping other authors with promoting their work, and working on my own projects.

Book 2 of my series is on hiatus because I'm deep into revising my novella, "Something About Alexis", and getting it ready for publication. Thanks to a dear friend of mine who also writes for eXtasy Books, I'm getting it cleaned up properly, and proofed perfectly. It's slow going because I have to do a lot of revisions, but it's going to be worth it in the end. I hope to have that done and sent back to her sometime soon, so I can get back to actual writing. I want to finish my first ever series ASAP, and I'm anxious to reveal its title and first book to all of you!

As you've seen, I've started hosting more and more authors on here. I plan to be doing more in the future, so keep an eye out for that. I love helping other authors promote their work, more than I like promoting my own stuff.

Maggie Blackbird's second book, REDEEMED, will be available for preorder sometime soon... Keep your eyes open for that, it's going to be an amazing read!

STRICKEN

STRICKEN will be 2 years old on March 17... Hard to believe! I am in the process of setting up a celebration for it, but I want the details ironed out before I post anything publicly. Keep watching here, my Facebook Page, Twitter and other spots for forthcoming details! It's going to be a lot of fun!

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend. We're getting upwards of 2 feet of snow between today and Monday, so things will finally look like a winter wonderland here - gag me!

I leave you with "Slither" by Velvet Revolver... Enjoy!

COVER REVEAL: Redeemed By Maggie Blackbird

Today, I’m hosting my friend and fellow eXtasy Books author, Maggie Blackbird. Maggie is of the Ojibway Nation, from northern Ontario. Her first book, “Blessed” has made an impact across the romance genre, as well as Canadian books in general.

I am honored to be doing the cover reveal for her second book, “Redeemed”, which is Book 2 of the Matawapit family series. The heroine, Bridget is the older sister of one of the heroes of “Blessed”, Emery, and “Redeemed” chronicles her journey with her former lover, Adam.

* * * *

VJ: Welcome Maggie. Thanks for being here.

“Blessed” is an amazing story, and quite ambitious for a first novel because although it deals with issues like sexuality and the church, it shows them in a whole new light.

Do you think “Redeemed” will have the same punch as its predecessor?

Maggie:   I hope so.  Redeemed addresses Indigenous children in foster care, aboriginal street gangs, and The Indian Residential Schools.  The residential schools, of course, carry throughout the series.

VJ: What were some of the difficulties you faced while writing the Matawapit Family series?

Maggie:   I can’t think of any difficulties I faced, other than Emery’s character in Blessed, which I’ll address in the next question.

VJ: Which of the three installments was the most difficult to write?

Maggie:   Blessed.  Emery was a difficult character, and I mean this in a good way.  He’s a very private man, so getting him to share his thoughts, beliefs, and sexuality on paper wasn’t easy.  His character is bashful and quite modest.  If he had his way, he would’ve continued to live in my head, and not out in the publishing world.  I even called on the help of a developmental editor because he was being that difficult.  He’s not a difficult character as an individual, but difficult because he doesn’t want readers invading his privacy.  And if I address what else his problem was, I’ll be spoiling the plot for those who haven’t read the book.  This “problem” was why I had to contact a developmental editor for advice.

VJ: Which of the three stories was the easiest to do?

Maggie:  Sanctified.  Jude and Raven are go-getters and very assertive.  They each know what they want.  Neither is shy about starring in a romance novel.  I’ll admit finishing the last 15% of the novel has been rough, and it’s not Raven and Jude’s fault. It’s my fault because I’m tired LOL.  I started Sanctified for my NaNo project.  I wrote 60K in November.  I had to take a break through December and January to edit Redeemed.  So I had to tweak quite a few drafted chapters for Sanctified at the beginning of February because of Jude.  Now I’m back on track, determined to finish this draft.

VJ: What’s in store for Bridget and Adam on their journey?

Maggie:  The blurb doesn’t mention Mrs. Dale, a social worker for the fictional Children and Family Services.  Her role isn’t big, but it’s big enough to impact Bridget and Adam’s budding relationship, and why if Bridget follows her heart, she risks losing Kyle.

VJ: Did you ever expect to have this much impact and popularity after only one novel?

Maggie:  I’ll be honest.  I’m clueless about this impact and popularity hahaha  Never knew it existed.  Someone forgot to send me the memo!

VJ: What influenced you to write this series?

Maggie:   Blessed started out as a short story, and it grew from there.  I always had the setting, the two main characters (Emery and Darryl), but their story was different in the original short draft.  The two felt it wasn’t enough for them, so the short story expanded into a novel.  While writing the novel, Bridget and Jude (Emery’s older brother and sister) decided they also wanted a story.  I liked their backstories enough to say, “Okay, I’ll make this a series and give them each a novel.”

VJ: You have a third book almost finished, “Sanctified”. Will we be seeing Bridget, Emery and their husbands in it?

Maggie:   The adult children appear in all three novels.  Along with Norman (the deacon and patriarch of the family) and Maria (wife of the deacon and mother to Emery, Bridget, and Jude).  So do the Kabatay family, enemy of the Matawapit family.  Each book is a stand-alone.  You don’t need to read all three, but I do encourage it because the Kabatays have an arc that carries through the three novels.

VJ: What are your plans for future books?

Maggie:   I’ve been hemming and hawing whether to write a fourth book for the Matawapit Family series, but we’ll see.  Right now, a trilogy has my interest and has been waiting patiently (read: impatiently) in the background.  I already have sixteen chapters written.  It’ll take place at the fictional Thunder Mountain First Nation located beside Thunder Bay during the “grunge/alt. music” era.

This is the logline that is subject to change for the new trilogy:  A drug-dealing punk and the chief’s haughty, privileged son, fall for each other, even though they stand on opposing sides of a raging political conflict that could tear apart their Ojibway community, and their newfound love.

Thanks for dropping by Maggie. It was fun, as always!

Don’t forget, Maggie’s first book, “Blessed” is available on eXtasy Books’ website in a variety of formats. “Redeemed” will be out sometime soon, I will update when I find out!

A single woman battles to keep her foster child from his newly-paroled father—a dangerous man she used to love.

Blurb:  Bridget Matawapit is an Indigenous activist, daughter of a Catholic deacon, and foster mother to Kyle, the son of an Ojibway father—the ex-fiancĂ© she kicked to the curb after he chose alcohol over her love. With Adam out on parole and back in Thunder Bay, she is determined to stop him from obtaining custody of Kyle.

Adam Guimond is a recovering alcoholic and ex-gangbanger newly-paroled. Through counselling, reconnecting with his Ojibway culture and twelve-step meetings while in prison, Adam now understands he’s worthy of the love that frightened him enough to pick up the bottle he’d previously corked. He can’t escape the damage he caused so many others, but he longs to rise like a true warrior in the pursuit of forgiveness and a second chance. There’s nothing he isn’t willing to do to win back his son–and Bridget.

When an old cell mate’s daughter dies under mysterious circumstances in foster care, Adam begs Bridget to help him uncover the truth. Bound to the plight of the Indigenous children in care, Bridget agrees. But putting herself in contact with Adam threatens to resurrect her long-buried feelings for him, and even worse, she risks losing care of Kyle, by falling for a man who might destroy her faith in love completely this time.

About the Author:  An Ojibway from Northwestern Ontario, Maggie resides in the country with her husband and their fur babies, two beautiful Alaskan Malamutes.  When she’s not writing, she can be found pulling weeds in the flower beds, mowing the huge lawn, walking the Mals deep in the bush, teeing up a ball at the golf course, fishing in the boat for walleye, or sitting on the deck at her sister’s house, making more wonderful memories with the people she loves most.

EXCERPT:

Book 1 – Mistela Excerpt

Luke had died and gone to Heaven. A silver-white planet hung in the mocha-violet sky like Earth’s moon—but this had to be Heaven’s sun, because the blistering light made him squint. Its heat was strong like a man’s touch. Bubbly champagne waves crept up the shore, and a thousand glistening fairies danced their way back to the calming sea where silver angels floated effortlessly on the surface. Luke had to examine the tall arching palm trees that adorned the shoreline more closely. Their leaves! They pointed up, as if the world had been turned upside down. Was that Heaven? Was it a world of opposites, where there was a moon for the sun, champagne for the salty ocean water and leaves that ran from the sand? He closed his eyes to a spinning darkness and it frightened him—as if he’d slipped into a bad dream.
Like smelling salts, gardenia mixed with magnolia filled his nose and his eyes shot wide open again. Nothing had changed. He was still in an upside down world. The waterfall behind him confirmed it. Upon closer inspection he noticed it was travelling upward. As he squinted to focus more closely, he saw a lake floating above the waterfall, seemingly weightless, like a cloud suspended in thin air. Had he been drugged? No. No, he hadn’t. He’d died and gone to Heaven, surely?
He rubbed the sleep from his eyes, reached out to his right and stumbled across a wooden rail. He took a double take. A wooden rail. With wide alert eyes he quickly scanned his surroundings. He found a rectangular wooden hut that was held together with string. A bowed wooden floor greeted his feet and a roof fabricated from palm tree leaves shielded him from the sun.
The greying rail creaked as Luke pulled himself to his feet. Sun-bleached honey-coloured straw chafed the bottom of his feet and toes. Where the hell was he?
Luke clung to his head as if he’d been hit hard with a hammer. Of course—the cruise ship. He’d been on a cruise ship that had sunk. Every hair on Luke’s body stood on end. He could be anywhere.
Life drained from his body. His legs trembled and buckled, causing him to stumble forward. He grabbed hold of the twisted, cracking rail with both hands. Once he regained his balance he breathed in sharply, pushed himself up using what little strength his arms could offer, and turned around.
The rest of the hut resembled a sitting room. In the centre, a rough chunk of mahogany tree trunk twenty inches high served as a coffee table. Surrounding it were four lengths of tree trunk, three feet wide and five feet tall, that had L’s carved into them to provide oversized bucket seats. In the far left hand corner, he could see a counter that was supported by wonky tree branches held together with string.
Luke breathed out sharply and covered his mouth with his hands. All he wanted was the answer to one question. Where was he? The answer he had in his head almost brought tears to his eyes. Based on the landscape and colours, it didn’t look or feel like Earth.
When he heard someone or something moving behind him, Luke jolted forward so violently he fell to his knees.
“Hey, little man, there’s no need to be so nervous. I only wanted to welcome you to Mistela.”
When he turned around and saw what was walking toward him, Luke tried to scramble to his feet, but his under nourished and lethargic body would not let him. The best he could do was shuffle his way to the far end of the room on his hands and knees as fast as his cumbersome body would take him.
He grabbed out with both hands to find something solid, something that would offer him some support, but loose straw just crumpled in his hands. Wild eyed, his gaze darted to his right. He acknowledged a dense forest deprived of light that led to who knew what. Beyond that was a never-ending sea that would surely be his next watery grave.
An eight foot tall hulking giant, wearing what looked like a bronzed wet suit, stomped toward him. The wooden floor groaned beneath him with every footstep.
Luke’s arms and legs lashed out involuntarily trying to find an escape route. But when the Herculean creature stood directly above him, he froze. Desperately, he quickly surveyed his predator. Bulking shoulders that supported a thick bulldog neck craned forward, bringing the narrow almond face, aquiline nose and small elongated nostrils closer into view. Luke let out a sigh of relief. At least it had human-like features. Perhaps it had the mentality and attitude of a human, too.
He breathed in sharply when he saw the flat, pinned backed ears, wavy lips and flaps of folded skin on his neck. Its green eyes and oval yellow pupils mesmerised Luke. He felt like a deer caught in headlights, unable to move despite knowing it was about to be annihilated.
Luke was consumed with helplessness. Even if his drained body was capable of running, he would not have known where to run. He was in a strange place that he did not know. More worrying was the fact he’d no idea what else might be out there. If the creature towering above him was eight feet tall, what other giant monsters or beasts were out there waiting for him?
He had to accept that since he was only five feet eleven inches tall, this being would be able to catch him within a matter of seconds and crush him into pulp if it wanted to.

The 12 Gods

What’s in a dream? Maybe nothing or everything. There’s certainly more to it when the same dream keeps recurring and can’t be ignored. Justin’s best friend Lucas suspects it has something to do with their upcoming holiday to Mykonos. He predicts something strangely wonderful is going to happen to Justin while they are there. But nothing could prepare Justin for what was in store for him.

When The 12 Gods fear that humans have learned to think for themselves, diminishing their Godly powers, four Gods are sent to Earth to find out what is really going on. Hesodo is particularly keen to go, but to accomplish a completely different mission—to find Justin and win him back. When Justin has a tragic accident, there is only one option, which results in Justin finding out more than he bargained for about his past love and history, teaching him that dreams should never be ignored.

Berkeley is set for life after providing his Royal Services and decides to travel to London to visit his friends and family to cheer him up. There he has a raunchy chance encounter with a stranger on a train who he meets again in unsuspected circumstances.
